Anime Central Rules
Thank you for coming to Anime Central 2012! For those who are new – welcome! For those who are returning – welcome back! These rules are designed to help people be safe and let everyone have a good time, and they apply to attendees, staff, vendors, artists, and guests alike.
General Rules
- Keep it PG-13 unless you’re in an 18+ area
- We reserve the right to:
~ ask for valid government-issued identification.
~ ask to inspect the contents of bags, backpacks, and purses.
~ deny entrance to an event for safety reasons, intoxication, fire code limits, etc.
- Anything that is illegal outside the convention is illegal inside the convention. Anime Central does not condone illegal activities, including but not limited to smoking/drinking while under the legal age or in publicly restricted areas, providing alcohol to minors, or using illegal substances or paraphernalia. Perpetrators will be turned over to the police.
- Don’t do anything that risks the safety of any attendee.
- Don’t deface or damage property or equipment. You are responsible for the cost of anything that you damage.
- If a staff member, hotel employee, or Rosemont officer tells you to stop a certain behavior, respect their requests.
- Do not drop anything from the interior or exterior balconies of the hotel.
- No play-fighting is allowed on convention premises. Still poses are OK, mock-combat is not.
Children
- Our event strives to be family-friendly, but we are not a child care service. Your kids are your responsibility. Lost children will be presented to Rosemont Police for help finding the parents.
- We discourage parents from bringing children without a parental escort and/or a means of location/communication.
- Local curfew laws dictate that persons 17 and under, unless registered guests of the hotel or accompanied by a legal guardian, must be off hotel grounds by midnight.
- Parents will be held responsible for damages done by their minor children.
Costumes and Props
These rules are for costumes worn around the convention. If you aren’t sure whether your costume or prop is acceptable, you may ask a staff member at any time!
A costume is unacceptable if it does any of the following:
- Is used or handled unsafely
- Fails to comply with local laws
- Leaves your feet bare
- Has vulgar remarks or hate speech
- Will damage hotel property (example: pointy spikes or body paint on the uncovered areas you use to sit.)
- Has harmful protrusions such as spikes or sharp edges
- Extends more than six inches (6”) from your body in any direction. If you have a long tail, for example, it is acceptable if you hold it against your body, but unacceptable if you let it drag behind.
- Has a sign that is not obviously part of the costume.
- Impedes others’ view during seated events. (For this type of issue, you will not be asked to go change, but you may be asked to leave the event or move to the back of a viewing area.)
A prop is unacceptable if it:
- Breaks any of the above costume rules
- Is greater than your height in length when broken down.
~ Props must be approximately your height or less in length. (If you are under four feet (4’) tall, your prop may be up to four feet (4’) long.)
- Has Live Steel. (Any object crafted from metal with a blade or pointed edge, sharp or blunt.)
~ As a related note, blade replicas purchased in the exhibit hall may not ever be purchased or carried by minors, and must be kept wrapped and boxed as sold by the vendor until you can move them to your car or hotel room. If you receive one of these items in a manner that breaks this rule, please find an ACen Exhibit Space Team Member and let them know.
- Is a real firearm, or realistic replica firearm.
~ Gun props must have a blaze orange tip, and are required to be sufficiently unrealistic that a person must be able to tell that the prop is not real from across a room.(Transparent, flat image on cardboard, futuristic/unrealistic, blue rubber training props etc.)
- Is fire-able. Fireable missiles/projectiles may not be carried on your person. Projectile firing toys must be unloaded. Bows and crossbows must be unstrung or strung with loose material like yarn.
- Has a laser dot/laser pointer.
Handling of Unacceptable Costumes and Props
If you are found with an unacceptable prop, we will ask you to take it to your room. If you are unable or unwilling, or this is a repeat problem, we may ask to confiscate the problem prop. Confiscated props may be claimed from 2pm to 6pm on Sunday at Convention Operations, after which they will be disposed of. You must bring a government-issued photo ID to claim your prop.
Special Large Event Rules: Concerts, Dances, and the Masquerade
- No photography or recording is permitted during concerts.
- No bags are permitted in the dances.
- Line jumping, reserving spots and saving seats are never permitted.
- If you need to use the washroom or get a drink of water while in line, let staff know so that you do not seem to be cutting in line when you return.
- There is no coat or bag check, so make sure you have only what you need when you get in line.
